The lower part of the pendant features an openwork heart formed of foliage, holding in its center a movable part set with a gold leaf. diamond rose-cut piriform. The whole is paved with diamonds set on paillon. The upper part represents a torch and a bow and arrow. The Flemish heart is a typical piece of jewelry from 17th and 18th century Flanders. The Flemish heart is first and foremost a jewel of sentiment. The torch represents the passion of love, as do the bow and arrows, the attributes of Cupid, and the foliage, the symbol of fertility. It's also a religious jewel, traditionally offered on August 15 for Saint Mary's Day. Last but not least, this jewel reflects social status, as it is associated with the Flemish merchant bourgeoisie.
