A. AUGIS signet ring with a love medallion in yellow gold and diamond
A substantial vintage signet ring in solid 18-karat (750/1000) yellow gold, stamped with an eagle's head hallmark and a lozenge-shaped maker's mark. French work from the 1950s-1960s by the renowned jeweler Alphonse Augis, signed. The center is a circular "Love Medal," chased with a star motif and a polished gold border, bearing the inscription "+ than yesterday - than tomorrow" in relief. The plus side is set with a diamond, and the minus side is adorned with two rectangular calibrated synthetic rubies. The medal is set within a closed setting of twisted gold. The bezel is bordered below by a beautiful gold wire gallery with a scalloped motif in two rows. It joins the band with an openwork gold wire loop.
Diameter of the tray: 1.8 cm
Height on the finger: 0.74 cm
Weight: 7.44 g
Ring size: 50 (diameter 15.9 mm, sizes 5 1/4 / K 1/2)
Condition: Very good, with a few light micro-scratches and a possible old resizing. Beautiful warm gold color. This is a splendid, iconic, collectible, symbolic, and very luminous piece of jewelry.
It was in 1907 that Alphonse Augis, a jeweler in Lyon, inspired by a poem by Rosemonde Gérard (1866-1953) dedicated to her husband, the writer Edmond Rostand (1868-1918), author of "Cyrano de Bergerac" in 1897, created the Love Medal. He had the idea of transcribing the two lines: "For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow." The Love Medal constantly reminds us of the fervor of eternal feelings.
Fast and careful shipping in a beautiful new case with an invoice (the old presentation case in the photo is not part of the sale).
